On March 1, 1886, the Escondido Company gave the grant to the newly formed Escondido Land & Town Company, which proceeded to subdivide the valley into small farms and design the city site. The centerpiece of the city's remodeling efforts is the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, which attracts more than 270,000 visitors from San Diego and surrounding regions each year and provides a significant boost to an already healthy economy.
